Dental Extraction

Back to “Our Services”

There are many different reasons a tooth may need to be extracted. In some cases, severe decay makes it necessary, in others advanced periodontal disease is the underlying problem. At times, broken teeth may be beyond repair, and in other instances a tooth may be poorly positioned in the mouth or impacted. And, in other instances, the extraction may be needed to prepare for orthodontic treatment.

Whatever the reason it is needed, a dental extraction is one of two types: a simple extraction or a surgical extraction.

A simple extraction is the term used when the tooth can be seen in the mouth; a surgical extraction, as the name implies, is the procedure used to remove a tooth that cannot be seen, either because it is impacted and remains beneath the gum or because it has broken off at the gum line.

Both Dr. Gendler and Dr. Shama have extensive experience with both kinds of extractions and a strong commitment to your comfort and safety when you need the procedure. For many patients, Conscious Sedation can be an effective option to minimize discomfort during an extraction.
