Meet Dr. Shama
Dr. Joseph Shama

Even before his professional career formally got underway, Dr. Joseph Shama had distinguished himself while still a dentistry student at the University of Minnesota, where the Academy of General Dentistry honored him in 1987 as the “Senior Dental Student Showing the Greatest Knowledge and Proficiency in the Science of Dentistry.”
Subsequently, Dr. Shama was, himself, a clinical instructor for the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, even as he continued to advance his own professional knowledge and skills. Out of “an unyielding respect for hard and soft tissue”-combined with his commitment to keeping the best interests of each patient at the forefront of his practice-he decided to specialize his practice in providing definitive sedation and dentoalveolar surgery, to use the medical term relating to surgery involving the teeth and surrounding bone.
Sedation, he believes, is invaluable for the safe and comfortable treatment of patients in the dental office.
In pursuing his specialized training, Dr. Shama completed a rigorous course in intravenous sedation through Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he once again excelled, graduating first in a class so demanding that only seven of the 22 dentists who began the program completed it.
He has also completed courses with many of the foremost implantation educators in the world, and has been recognized for “Innovation in Implant Dentistry” by the Midwest Implant Institute.
In the course of his career, Dr. Shama has completed thousands of successful dentoalveolar surgeries, including extraction treatments, third molar removal and implant treatments.
He is a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
“In 20 years of having the honor and privilege to be part of this great profession, I can think of nothing more enjoyable than working together with colleagues in the mutual care of patients.”
